I'm frequently asked how I started to do glass work and why.
The "Why" is simple?
I was bored and needed an income for the winter months.
The "Why" is kind of a funny story!
I didn't know what I wanted to do. I thought a long time about what to do and one day was tired of thinking about it and stood the phone book on the spine and let it flop open, closed my eyes and put my finger on something. My finger landed one heading off was the words "Stained Glass." The light came on and off I went to get my supplies and figure it all out!
I thought for a hobby it would be fun. Little did I know that 2 years later I was sending my art work all over the world and 15 years later we have a full business.
Now if you know about our studio you know I'm a person who pushes the envelope of creativity. After three years I wanted to start to push the envelope! I had to have a sandblasting system then after a year I wanted to add the kiln. The next year was a rapid blur of trying to master all the fun I had purchased.. lol Then the light came on again and all the sudden I wanted a laser engraver to do 3D work on glass...fun! It took me about 2 years to decide I needed to learn beveling and airbrushing with glass enamels. Then it was hot glass working. Now the realization I have is the business is like one of those cans you open and the snake flings out of it.. Yip we are bursting at the seams...the business is going to need a larger space to work in. It’s out of room and boy, oh boy at the toys I still want to make the detailed works I love to do!
Life is short and I’m blessed to get to do what I love to do, work with glass.
